Association Studies

Once we have identified an area for a potential location of an absence gene we narrow this location by association studies.

Association is detected on a population level (not family level as in linkage). The frequency of certain alleles of a marker is compared in patients and healthy controls or how often this certain allele is transmitted from patient to affected children.
